The 36,500 square-foot museum, named after the family of a North Carolina resident, houses mid-20th century modern art. The family of Andreas Bechtler attained more than 1,400 works of art by major artists of 20th-century modernism and donated them to the public trust. These art works are on display at the museum, however only 10 percent of the collection can be viewed at any given time.
